Market participants are increasingly betting that Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) and Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ: SPCX) could merge in 2027 after Elon Musk dropped new hints.

The Mega Merger

Polygon (CRYPTO: POL)-based Polymarket currently assigns a 70% chance that the two companies will officially combine by Dec. 31, 2027, up 5 percentage points in a day and 10 percentage points in a week.

Similarly, the odds of a merger by June 30, 2027, rose from 45% to 55% over the last week. Over $1.4 million has been wagered on the outcome.

Hold Your Horses, Says Musk

The spike in odds comes after Musk said SpaceX and Tesla have formed “special committees” to discuss this idea “at the request of shareholders.”

The world’s richest person added it’d be a “good idea,” but warned against treating a merger as a sure thing.

Benzinga polled its “PreMarket Playbook” audience to gauge how retail investors feel about the potential timing of a deal. About 70% of viewers believe the merger will happen by Dec. 3 or later.

Musk’s remarks came alongside SpaceX’s blowout third-quarter results, with both revenue and earnings crushing analysts’ estimates.

Tesla is scheduled to release its third-quarter financial results after the market close on Wednesday.

Price Action: SpaceX shares jumped 8.06% in after-hours trading, according to Benzinga Pro. The stock closed 0.11% lower at $147.79 during Tuesday’s regular trading session. Tesla shares lifted 1.80% in the after-hours session.

SPCX’s price trend remains weak in the short term but strong across the medium and long terms, according to Benzinga’s Edge Stock Rankings.
