Binance named Justin Yek chief financial officer on Saturday, replacing Kaiser Ng, days after hackers stole $6.3 billion from the exchange in a record heist.

Binance Co-Chief Executive Officer Yi He said Ng is leaving to pursue another venture. “Kaiser Ng has decided to pursue a new venture after more than five years at Binance, with a transition plan implemented over the last half year,” she said in a statement to Reuters.

Airwallex Veteran Takes Over as Finance Chief

Yek, a longtime finance executive, was most recently vice president of finance at Airwallex.

Ng had served as CFO since January 2022, according to his LinkedIn profile. He previously worked at rival exchange Kraken.

Hack Traced to Malware and Fake Job Offers

The leadership change comes just over a week after the late October breach. Binance said the attack began months earlier with malware hidden in software downloads. It also said hackers used fake job recruitment efforts aimed at engineers. Several employees’ computers were compromised.

The FBI has blamed a North Korean hacking group for the theft. Pyongyang has denied the allegation.

Binance said it will fully reimburse affected customers.
