The Trump administration is reportedly considering an executive order on vaccines and autism as early as next week.
The contents of the potential order could not be determined, and the timing is also subject to change, Bloomberg reported on Thursday.
White House spokesman Kush Desai told the publication, “President Trump has been clear: America must have the best childhood vaccine schedule in the world.” Desai added that the administration remains committed to delivering Gold Standard Science for the several parents whose concerns regarding child vaccinations have been “ignored or mocked.
Notably, there is little scientific evidence to establish a link between autism and childhood vaccines.
Meanwhile, an internal memo revealed that advisers suggested the Republicans to steer clear of “divisive” issues like vaccination ahead of the November mid-terms.
In the past, Trump has attempted to trim the number of vaccines recommended for children. According to an executive order in May, the President also wanted to align the U.S. vaccination and immunization schedule to the countries with fewer shots.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) did not immediately respond to a Benzinga’s request for comment.
Trump Pushes RFK Jr. For Autism Research
Last week during a cabinet meeting at Camp David, Trump pushed Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. about his department’s progress with Autism research. “We’re finding…certain interventions now that are clearly almost certainly causing autism….We will have announcements as promised in September,” said Kennedy.
In September 2025, researchers had reportedly submitted over 100 proposals to join the Trump administration’s $50 million Autism Data Science Initiative, with as many as 25 grants slated for award by late September. RFK Jr. announced the initiative in May and directed National Institutes of Health (NIH) to lead it.
Trump Links Tylenol to Austism
Last year, Trump also linked autism to childhood vaccines and to the use of over-the-counter pain medication such as Kenvue Inc.‘s (NYSE:KVUE) Tylenol during pregnancy. However, major medical groups reiterated that acetaminophen remains safe for consumption during pregnancy when used as directed.
On the other hand, in March, the FDA collaborated with GSK plc (NYSE:GSK), the New Drug Application holder of Wellcovorin, on a process to update the labeling for the safe and effective use of the drug for adults and pediatric patients with CFD-FOLR1. These patients often have autism-like symptoms, including extreme developmental delays, movement disorders, seizures, as well as other serious neurological complications.
