Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) defended President Donald Trump’s efforts to lower energy costs. He urged Congress to curb federal spending, reduce regulations, and balance the budget to help address inflation.
Scott Defends Trump’s Energy Policies
On Saturday, in his post on X, Scott acknowledged Americans’ concerns about the cost of living, writing, “Americans are worried about the high cost of living, and I don’t blame them.”
He added that Trump was doing his part to address the issue but urged Congress to “DELIVER FOR FAMILIES and PROTECT THE AMERICAN DREAM.”
In a Fox News interview clip shared alongside the post, Scott said Trump was working to reduce oil and gasoline prices through increased domestic energy production and cooperation with Venezuela, while acknowledging the need to defend the U.S. against Iran.
“Trump is doing everything he can… to get oil and gas prices down,” Scott said.
Scott Calls For Budget Cuts To Curb Inflation
Scott argued that Congress must take responsibility for the federal budget, pointing to annual deficits of about $2 trillion.
“We’re the ones that have to balance the budget,” he said, adding that balancing the budget would help bring inflation under control.
Scott also promoted his ‘Rescuing America’ plan, which calls for balancing the budget, dramatically reducing regulations and streamlining the permitting process.
“That’ll get prices down. That I did as governor of Florida,” Scott said, referring to his push to reduce regulatory hurdles and speed up approvals.
Inflation and Deficit Concerns Mount
Last week, the U.S. recorded a $1.992 trillion budget deficit in fiscal 2026, with net interest payments exceeding defense spending.
Moody’s Analytics Chief Economist Mark Zandi warned of a “fiscal reckoning,” citing rising debt and Treasury yields.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent attributed September’s inflation increase to an energy shock, predicting prices would fall once the Iran conflict ended.
Consumer prices rose 3.7% year over year in September, above economists’ expectations, while monthly inflation accelerated to 0.6%. Gasoline prices jumped 9.1% month over month in September, accounting for more than half of the monthly CPI increase.
