American Airlines Group Inc (NASDAQ:AAL) stock rose on Thursday as oil prices eased, with crude falling toward $100 a barrel on Thursday.
The Nasdaq is up 1.72% while the S&P 500 has gained 1.13% and Industrials are adding 0.4%, giving AAL a supportive tape to bounce with.
Technical Analysis
AAL is still in “repair mode” on the longer-term chart: it’s trading 10% below its 50-day SMA, 9.6% below its 100-day SMA, and 6.2% below its 200-day SMA, which keeps overhead supply in play on rebounds. The 20-day SMA is closer (about 1.5% above the stock), so near-term traders are watching whether price can reclaim that area and hold it.
The longer-term crossover picture is mixed: the golden cross in June (50-day SMA above the 200-day SMA) is still a constructive backdrop, but the 20-day SMA sitting below the 50-day SMA keeps the near-term trend tilted lower. That combination often produces choppy rallies that need follow-through to turn into a sustained uptrend.
- Key Resistance: $14 — a round-number area that also sits near the 200-day zone ($13.92), where rebounds can stall
- Key Support: $11.50 — a nearby floor traders may defend after the stock’s March low and the broader downtrend since the July swing high
