Circle Internet Group Inc. (NYSE:CRCL) stock continued its downward momentum on Monday, extending losses from Friday as crypto market weakness, regulatory uncertainty and analyst target forecast weighed on sentiment ahead of the company’s upcoming financial report.
Regulatory Uncertainty Slows Momentum
Crypto-linked assets faced pressure as investors reacted to declining expectations for legislative progress. In a Wednesday report cited by CoinDesk, JPMorgan analysts led by Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou pegged the probability of the CLARITY Act passing this Congressional session at 37%.
“The longer the approval of the Clarity Act is postponed, the greater the threat to crypto markets from the growth of tokenization and blockchain-based applications eventually being absorbed by incumbent market infrastructure rather than accruing to public crypto networks,” the analysts wrote.
Sen. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., expressed concern on X on Wednesday ahead of the Senate’s summer recess: “After nearly 11 months of giving almost everything asked of us, I genuinely don’t know what else my Democrat colleagues need before we act,”
Declines across digital asset markets added to the sell-off. Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) pulled back, while Coinbase Global Inc. (NASDAQ:COIN) reported second-quarter results Thursday that further dampened broader market sentiment.
Analysts Cut Price Forecasts
Bernstein lowered its price forecast on Circle by 26% on Wednesday, cutting its price forecast from $190 to $140.
Mizuho upgraded the stock to Neutral while lowering its target to $45 on July 31.
Previously, Raymond James initiated coverage at Market Perform on July 22, while Mizuho downgraded the stock to Underperform with a $50 price forecast on July 14. The stock currently maintains a Buy rating with an average target of $109.58.
Upcoming Earnings Release
Circle schedules its second-quarter earnings release for Wednesday. Wall Street projects earnings of 19 cents per stock compared with a loss of 43 cents per stock a year earlier, alongside projected revenue growth to $734.7 million from $658.1 million.
CRCL Stock Price Activity: Circle Internet Group shares were down 6.06% at $58.81 during premarket trading on Monday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
