CrowdStrike Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:CRWD) stock experienced a downward trend on Thursday as broader market pressures triggered profit-taking across the cybersecurity sector.

Major market indexes showed notable declines, with the Nasdaq down 2.36% while the S&P 500 has shed 1.36% and Technology is also sliding 1.1%.

Tech Sector Faces Rotation Driven By AI Spending Warnings

A broader “risk-off” rotation impacted the technology-heavy Nasdaq and software equities.

Market pressure mounted following Big Tech earnings anxiety, which stemmed from massive artificial intelligence capital expenditure warnings issued by major technology firms such as Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA)

U.S. stock futures slid earlier in the session, reversing gains from Wednesday’s higher close.

Intelligence Investigations Introduce Geopolitical Concerns

Adding to broader macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainty, U.S. intelligence analysts are investigating whether Russia assisted Iran with target information or enhanced drone tech in recent precise strikes on CIA facilities in the Gulf, according to Reuters.

DOT Concludes Review Of July 2024 Travel Meltdown

The market movement comes after the U.S. Department of Transportation concluded a review into Delta Air Lines regarding its handling of the July 2024 global software outage linked to CrowdStrike.

Technical Analysis

From a trend perspective, CrowdStrike is still in a longer-term uptrend: it’s trading 39.7% above its 200-day SMA ($130.90) and 28.7% above its 100-day SMA ($142.12), and the golden cross that formed in May keeps the bigger-picture bias constructive. The near-term issue is momentum and positioning—shares are now 5.1% below the 20-day SMA ($192.62), suggesting the recent swing high in July is being worked off through consolidation rather than immediate continuation.

RSI is the cleaner momentum read right now, sitting at 47.10, which points to neutral conditions after the stock cooled from the overbought stretch seen in June.

  • Key Resistance: $196.50 — a nearby ceiling that lines up with the area above current price where rebounds can stall, close to the 20-day moving-average zone
  • Key Support: $181 — a nearby floor just under current levels where buyers have recently shown up, making it an immediate “line in the sand” for the pullback

CRWD Price Action: CrowdStrike Holdings were down 2.86% at $183.04 at the time of publication on Thursday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
