The Emmy Award nominations have been announced and two late-night show hosts who found themselves as enemies of President Donald Trump are now getting record nominations.
Kimmel, Colbert Score Big
It hasn’t been that long since President Trump was celebrating the announcement that Paramount Skydance Corp (NASDAQ:PSKY) was ending “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
The president may not be celebrating the fact that the final season of the late-night talk show with Stephen Colbert received nine nominations for the Emmy Awards, a record for the show, which aired its final episodes in May 2026.
The previous record for the CBS show was five nominees for a single Emmy Award, as reported by Variety.
Among the categories the show is nominated for is Outstanding Variety Series. Going up against “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in that category is “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, the late-night show that airs on ABC from Walt Disney Co (NYSE:DIS).
“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” received a record six nominations, the most in the show’s history.
Trump has tried to get the show from Jimmy Kimmel banned after jokes about his wife, Melania Trump, and comments about the death of Charlie Kirk, which saw the show receive a brief suspension.
Other Emmy News
“The Pitt” led the way with 25 Emmy nominations, followed by 24 nominations for “Hacks,” setting a new single-show record for a comedy. Both those shows are on HBO Max, which is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery (NASDAQ:WBD). HBO Max led the way overall with 122 nominations.
Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) ranked third and fourth for shows with “Widow’s Bay” at 19 and “Pluribus” at 18. The tech giant received 87 total nominations, trailing only HBO Max and Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX), which has 111 nominations.
Last year’s ceremony saw Apple break records with “The Studio” having 13 wins and 23 nominations. That show and others helped Apple have 22 total wins, trailing 30 wins by each of Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery.
