Strategy Inc. (NASDAQ:MSTR) stock traded lower on Thursday as investors locked in profits following a 7.54% rally in the previous session.
On Wednesday, crypto-linked equities advanced as Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) rose, supported by crypto exchanges launching prediction markets and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency issuing a final rule to implement the GENIUS Act, according to Benzinga Pro.
However, Bitcoin dropped 2.86%, or $2,401.19, over the last 24 hours to trade at $81,642 on Thursday, weighing on related shares. Nasdaq futures are down 1.55% while S&P 500 futures have shed 0.90%.
Mow Points to Supply-Demand Dynamics
Despite near-term volatility, JAN3 CEO Samson Mow expects another major rally due to fading selling pressure and corporate treasury demand.
Speaking to Bitcoin Magazine on Tuesday, Mow said Bitcoin’s movements are driven by supply and demand rather than traditional cycles.
He highlighted that Bitcoin reached an all-time high before the 2024 halving and noted that treasury companies like Strategy are “massively undervalued.”
Saylor Outlines Catalysts for Bitcoin Growth
Speaking on Schwab Network’s Market Overtime on Monday, Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor predicted Bitcoin could return to $100,000 within 12 months. He cited catalysts including digital credit issuance, BTC-backed bank lending, and tokenized securities.
Technical Analysis
From a trend perspective, MSTR is still holding a constructive longer-term setup, but the near-term tape is softer: the stock is trading 5.3% below its 20-day SMA ($153.11), a sign the latest pullback is pressuring the short-term trend. At the same time, it remains 5.3% above the 50-day SMA ($137.70) and 7.1% above the 200-day SMA ($135.40), which keeps the intermediate trend from breaking down.
Momentum is best read through RSI, which sits at 54.96—neutral, and consistent with a stock that’s consolidating rather than trending hard in either direction.
The bigger-picture backdrop is still influenced by the golden cross that occurred in October (the 50-day SMA moving above the 200-day SMA), which often signals improving longer-term trend conditions. But with price still far below the 52-week high of $306.16 and down 45.34% over the past 12 months, rallies have needed follow-through to change the longer-term narrative.
- Key Resistance: $170 — a round-number area that lines up as a nearby rebound cap after the stock slipped under its short-term averages
- Key Support: $123.50 — a prior demand zone that sits closer to the stock’s mid-range basing area and would be a key “line in the sand” if selling accelerates
MSTR Stock Price Activity: Strategy shares were down 5.39% at $145.20 during premarket trading on Thursday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
