Nu Holdings Ltd. (NYSE:NU) stock rose in Wednesday’s premarket trading after UBS raised its price forecast for the Brazilian digital bank.
UBS analyst Thiago Batista maintained a Buy rating and raised his price forecast from $18.20 to $20.50 on Tuesday.
Broader market sentiment was also positive. Nasdaq futures gained about 0.5%, while S&P 500 futures rose 0.09%.
Brazil Election Adds Uncertainty Ahead of Runoff
Investors are also watching Brazil’s presidential election as the country prepares for an Oct. 25 runoff between Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro and incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Bolsonaro’s lead over Lula has narrowed in recent polls, Reuters reported Monday.
Bolsonaro’s campaign has pledged to strengthen fiscal discipline, improve public-sector efficiency and create conditions for stronger economic growth. The election could influence Brazil’s economic policies, interest rates and consumer lending conditions.
Brazil remains Nu’s largest market. As a result, changes in the country’s economic outlook could affect the bank’s lending business, profitability and investor sentiment.
Nu Rejects Monzo Deal, Focuses on Global Expansion
Meanwhile, Nu confirmed Sept. 30 that it was not pursuing a transaction with British digital bank Monzo.
Earlier in September, Sky News reported that the companies had held preliminary discussions about a potential deal valued at 8 billion to 10 billion British pounds.
Nu shares declined following the report. The company said it remains focused on expanding its core operations in Brazil, Mexico and Colombia.
Nu is also pursuing international growth through Nu Global, including its expansion into the United States. In September, the company announced its U.S. expansion plans, marking another step toward building a global digital banking platform.
