Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:META) has surpassed 10 million downloads with its Muse AI agent, adding momentum to the company’s AI push as U.S. downloads for OpenAI’s ChatGPT weaken.
Muse recorded 10.9 million downloads since its September launch. New data from Sensor Tower showed that over 10.2 million downloads came from the U.S., indicating strong early domestic adoption for Meta’s AI product, Yahoo Finance reported on Tuesday.
Only 11 other applications have exceeded 10 million U.S. downloads within 40 days, according to the data. Meta’s Threads was the most recent example, reaching that benchmark in July 2023.
Sensor Tower estimated that Muse surpassed 2.5 million daily active users for the first time on October 16, with users rising 15% week over week in the prior seven-day period.
By comparison, U.S. downloads for OpenAI’s ChatGPT dropped 25% during the latest 30-day period compared with the previous 30 days, the report noted.
Meta and OpenAI did not immediately respond to Benzinga’s request for comments.
Muse Faces Revenue Hopes
Muse’s rapid adoption arrives as the company is set to announce its third-quarter earnings on Wednesday, after the bell.
Earlier this month, a Deutsche Bank analyst said Muse could eventually account for as much as 8% of Meta’s revenue by 2030, as per Yahoo Finance.
During Meta’s July second-quarter earnings call, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said personal AI agents would underpin the company’s next phase of product development and monetization.
“We are developing new personal agents that will be the foundation for our next wave of products and revenue lines in the months and years ahead,” Zuckerberg said.
Privacy Concerns Mount Over Chat Links
The product, however, also faces scrutiny over data-sharing controls. On Tuesday, Meta suspended Muse’s conversation-sharing feature after security researchers said public domain name system (DNS) records could expose thousands of shared chat links.
Researchers at Claroc said Muse generated predictable sharing URLs that incorporated conversation titles into web addresses under a common domain structure. The researchers reported that about 6,800 chats were exposed.
Price Action: On a year-to-date basis, Meta stock climbed 5.18%, as per Benzinga Pro. In Wednesday’s pre-market session, it traded 0.28% lower at $692.30.
