Interactive Brokers Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:IBKR) stock traded lower in Friday’s premarket session after the company reported mixed third-quarter results.

Third-Quarter Earnings And Revenue

Interactive Brokers reported adjusted earnings per share of 67 cents, missing the analyst estimate of 68 cents.

However, revenue of $1.914 billion beat expectations of $1.888 billion.

Commission revenue increased 12% year over year to $602 million, marking the third consecutive quarter above $600 million.

Execution, clearing and distribution costs jumped 46% to $134 million, largely due to $30 million in Securities and Exchange Commission regulatory fees, compared with none a year earlier.

The company generally passes these fees on to customers, increasing revenue and expenses without affecting profits.

Total assets climbed 21% to $243 billion, while firm equity rose 19% to $23.3 billion. Interactive Brokers ended the quarter with no long-term debt.

Dividend Increase

Interactive Brokers raised its quarterly dividend to 15 cents per share from 8.75 cents, an increase of about 71%.

Founder and Chairman Thomas Peterffy said the company aims to distribute annual dividends equivalent to 0.5% to 1% of its market value. The increase brings the payout closer to that range.

Peterffy also said he does not anticipate circumstances that would force the company to cut its dividend.

Customer Growth And Trading Activity

Customer accounts grew more than 30% year over year, while daily average revenue trades (DARTs) increased 18% to 4.3 million.

However, commission revenue per cleared order fell 4% to $2.59, reflecting smaller trade sizes.

Futures trading volume rose 13%, while options activity declined slightly. Stock share volume dropped 24%, primarily due to weaker trading in low-priced stocks.

Meanwhile, margin loan balances surged 47% year over year and 8% sequentially.

Margin loan interest income increased 36%, while interest earned on segregated cash rose 4%. Both gains came despite a 63-basis-point decline in the average U.S. federal funds rate.

Overnight trading also gained momentum, with trades exceeding 10 million, compared with 3.5 million a year earlier.

Management said trading activity eased from the second quarter but showed no troubling trends. However, it acknowledged that volatility could increase ahead of the U.S. midterm elections.

Global Expansion And New Trading Products

Interactive Brokers expanded market access through the Bucharest Stock Exchange, the Texas Stock Exchange and a new options exchange.

The Texas exchange recorded average daily trading volume of approximately 2.5 million shares.

In Brazil, the company introduced B3 futures tied to financial indexes, cryptocurrencies and commodities.

It also expanded its Japanese offerings with margin lending, securities lending enhancements and GAIKA Plus, which pays interest on eligible non-yen cash balances.

Additionally, Interactive Brokers began a limited rollout of cryptocurrency staking services.

The company expanded its prediction-market offerings with hourly and 15-minute contracts covering cryptocurrencies, metals and energy.

Management said the additional integrations boosted trading volume while improving product selection, liquidity and execution opportunities.

AI-Powered Trading And Automation

Interactive Brokers expanded its AI capabilities, adding Perplexity integration, profit-and-loss alerts, watchlists and support for two-leg options strategies to its AI Connector.

The company also introduced Autonomous AI Trading, initially inviting approximately 3,000 clients to connect AI agents to their brokerage accounts for automated trading.

Interactive Brokers plans to broaden access and expand the service internationally.

Customers can allocate funds to a dedicated AI trading partition within their existing brokerage accounts, eliminating the need to open separate accounts.

Management expects AI tools to help investors analyze information and execute strategies more efficiently, potentially increasing trading activity.

Internally, the company is using AI to improve customer service, account onboarding, compliance and market surveillance.

Advisor Business And Brokerage Partnerships

Interactive Brokers’ tax-aware long-short investment strategies for registered investment advisors held approximately $300 million in assets at quarter-end.

The company is also simplifying advisor onboarding and strengthening integrations with platforms that support multiple custodians.

Management sees an opportunity to attract smaller advisory firms following a competitor’s planned $100 million minimum asset requirement.

Meanwhile, demand from introducing brokers remained strong as new firms joined the platform and existing partners expanded operations.

South Korea’s Dowel Investment and Securities also launched a global trading platform using Interactive Brokers’ technology and infrastructure.

IBKR Price Action: Interactive Brokers Group shares were down 0.73% at $85.40 during premarket trading on Friday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
