Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) accused President Donald Trump on Thursday of putting his own financial interests ahead of the American people.
Warren Takes Aim at Trump
Warren said in an X post that the Trump family “made billions” from cryptocurrency ventures, including World Liberty Financial (WLFI) and the Official Trump (CRYPTO: TRUMP) memecoin.
The senior lawmaker then pointed out that World Liberty Trust Co. secured conditional approval for a national trust bank charter, giving Trump a “new way to profit.”
“Trump’s not working for you. He’s working for himself,” Warren said.
In the Eye of the Storm
Trump’s cryptocurrency dealings ultimately complicated the CLARITY Act’s path through Congress.
Warren, among the loudest critics, argued that the legislation lacked adequate ethics safeguards and would “turbocharge Trump’s unprecedented corruption.” The bill eventually failed a key Senate vote.
Trump’s 2025 financial disclosure showed he earned more than $1.4 billion from cryptocurrency ventures, including more than $520 million from World Liberty Financial token sales and over $635 million in royalties from the TRUMP memecoin.
The White House has rejected conflict-of-interest allegations. A World Liberty Financial spokesperson told Benzinga that the banking charter in question will ensure “permanent regulatory supervision” that will outlast the current Trump administration.
