SharpLink CEO Joseph Chalom says Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) is “an exit asset,” while Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH) is his bet on the new financial rails.

Why Chalom Sees $4 Trillion in Fees at Risk

Chalom told The Wolf of All Streets podcast that four crypto ingredients are converging to create a new agentic economy: stablecoins as programmable digital cash, tokenized real-world assets, DeFi as a new execution layer, and AI agents to automate it all.

He argues this combination puts roughly $4 trillion in financial services fees at risk over the next decade.

His breakdown of where that money goes:

  • 35% stays with traditional incumbents like banks and insurance companies
  • 15% to 20% shifts to crypto-native disruptors building super apps
  • 50% gets compressed toward zero as AI agents eliminate fees tied to consumer inattention

The starting point is the roughly $15 trillion Americans hold in checking and savings accounts earning close to nothing, costing them an estimated $180 billion a year in lost interest.

Agents fix that by monitoring accounts continuously and shifting cash into higher-yielding options automatically.

Why This Time Moves Faster Than Past Fee Compressions

Chalom compared the shift to May 1975, when the SEC eliminated fixed brokerage commissions.

That change took nearly three decades to fully play out as stock trading commissions ground down to zero.

He expects the agentic shift to happen in what he called fast-forward instead of slow motion, given machine intelligence, blockchain rails, and stablecoins are already in place simultaneously rather than arriving one at a time.

Why Chalom Splits Bitcoin and Ethereum Into Different Roles

Chalom said he holds Bitcoin and Ethereum in equal size personally, framing them as serving different purposes rather than competing directly.

Bitcoin, in his view, functions as a hedge against monetary debasement and geopolitical risk, an asset with no CEO and no counterparty.

Ethereum’s edge is programmability, since most of the stablecoin, tokenization, DeFi, and agentic infrastructure Chalom describes is being built on Ethereum or Ethereum-compatible chains rather than Bitcoin.

He argues the key risk isn’t whether AI agents reshape finance, but who ends up controlling the rails those agents run on.

Chalom sees Ethereum’s decentralized, censorship-resistant structure as the best defense against a handful of corporations consolidating control the way past technology waves have played out.

What SharpLink Is Doing With That Thesis

SharpLink (NASDAQ:SBET) stakes 900,000 ETH in an actively managed treasury, giving equity holders exposure to both staking yield and capital appreciation.

In Chalom’s view, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other major crypto assets have turned the corner into a new bull market, making now a strong entry point for either asset.
