Cipher Digital Inc (NASDAQ:CIFR) stock is surging on Wednesday following an operational update regarding its power infrastructure. The company announced Tuesday on X that it concluded follow-up discussions with transmission service providers, and secured updated grid designations across six development sites totaling 3.2 gigawatts (GW).
Power Interconnection Updates
Cipher Digital received Conditional Base Load designations for Stingray (100 MW) and Colchis (1 GW).
The grid operator assigned Conditional Studied Load status to four additional sites: Mikeska (500 MW), Apollo (900 MW), Stingray Phase II (200 MW), and McLennan (500 MW). The first three of those studied load projects achieved PCLR (Pre-Contingency Load Shedding) qualified status.
Cipher Digital noted that Barber Lake (300 MW), Black Pearl (300 MW), and Odessa (207 MW) are energized, while Reveille (70 MW) and Ulysses (200 MW) hold full interconnection approval.
Audit And Community Initiatives
The news follows an announcement on Monday, in which Cipher Digital, Fluidstack and Anthropic committed $10 million to repair Colorado City’s water system. “In Colorado City, we wanted to invest directly in solutions that will benefit the community for years to come,” said Tyler Page, Cipher’s CEO.
“Communities that host AI infrastructure should be better off for it,” said Ryan Wilson, Anthropic’s Head of Economic Development. Cipher Digital stated that its Barber Lake data center runs on an on-site water supply, drawing zero water from Colorado City’s municipal system.
Technical Analysis
From a trend perspective, CIFR is still rebuilding: it’s trading 7.7% below its 50-day SMA ($18.55) and 6.9% below its 200-day SMA ($18.40), even after Wednesday’s bounce. At the same time, it’s 5.5% above its 20-day SMA ($16.23), which suggests the near-term tape is improving even if the intermediate trend hasn’t fully flipped.
RSI is the cleanest momentum read right now, sitting at 49.73, which is basically neutral and fits a “base-building” phase rather than an overbought breakout.
The moving-average structure is mixed: the 20-day SMA is below the 50-day SMA (a bearish short-term alignment), but the 50-day SMA is still above the 200-day SMA (a more constructive longer-term backdrop). On key levels, traders will likely watch:
- Key Resistance: $20 — a round-number area that also sits near the 50-day/200-day zone where rebounds can stall
- Key Support: $14.50 — a nearby area where buyers previously stepped in and a logical line-in-the-sand if the bounce fades
CIFR Stock Price Activity: Cipher Digital shares were up 9.08% at $16.46 at the time of publication on Wednesday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
