Wah Fu Education Group Ltd (NASDAQ:WAFU) shares climbed 27.01% to $1.74 after the bell on Tuesday, following the announcement that a subsidiary’s artificial intelligence project cleared a key government review in China.
AI Project Secures Subsidy Eligibility
The Beijing-based education company said its Wah Fu Education AI Ecosystem Intelligent Agent Industrialization Project passed review for the 2026 third batch of innovation-and-entrepreneurship projects in Yuhang District, Hangzhou. The project was submitted by majority-owned subsidiary Hangzhou Wah Fu Qizhen Digital Intelligence Technology Co., Ltd.
Selected projects can apply for local AI subsidies and industrial resource support, with subsidies of up to $1.1 million available pending final official approval, the company said. The review evaluated intellectual property, technological barriers, business model, market prospects and team strength.
CEO Points to Expansion in Adult, Digital Training
CEO Dr. Yu Yang said the review “is a recognition of Wah Fu Education’s AI technical strength,” adding the company will use the milestone to expand into adult education and digital training while advancing AI-agent applications toward commercial rollout.
This move follows a string of AI-related announcements this year. In August, Wah Fu disclosed three AI customization deals spanning higher education, agriculture and medical education, part of its broader push to commercialize AI-agent technology across sectors.
Founded in 1999, Wah Fu Education focuses on self-study higher education exams, continuing education information services, and non-degree training. It has established itself as a recognized brand in China’s adult distance education sector.
