Shares of Babcock & Wilcox Enterprises Inc. (NYSE:BW) are trading higher Friday afternoon as investors digest a $130 million utility contract alongside the company’s expanding footprint in AI data center power infrastructure.
- Babcock & Wilcox stock is among today’s top performers. Why is BW stock surging?
$130 Million Air Quality Award Supports Utility Baseload Demand
Buying interest follows B&W’s announcement on Thursday, September 10, 2026, that it received a limited notice to proceed on an approximately $130 million air quality control project for a U.S. coal-fired power plant.
Under the agreement, B&W will begin engineering, development, and long-lead procurement for environmental upgrades intended to help the facility meet stringent emissions reduction targets while supporting growing baseload grid reliability demands.
Siemens Energy Data Center Deal and Debt Elimination Clean Balance Sheet
The project award reinforces a broader commercial shift toward power generation and AI infrastructure. On August 11, B&W signed an agreement with Siemens Energy to commence work on 20 steam turbine generator sets totaling 1 gigawatt of generating capacity under its FastPower program, targeted directly at fast-tracking power supply for data centers.
Clearing capital structure hurdles ahead of these commercial wins, B&W announced on August 17 that it completed the full redemption of its entire $61.4 million in 6.50% Senior Notes due 2026, eliminating debt overhang and leaving the enterprise with its strongest balance sheet in recent history.
Strong Q2 Beat Provides Operational Buffer Against Macro Volatility
The fundamental progress builds on robust second-quarter 2026 financial results reported on Aug. 10. For the second-quarter, B&W generated $319.72 million in revenue, significantly topping Wall Street consensus estimates of $196.95 million, and delivered adjusted EPS of 4 cents compared to expected forecasts of 2 cents.
While broader industrial equities face pressure from persistent Federal Reserve rate-hike fears and surging global energy costs, B&W’s expanding $3.6 billion pipeline and strategic pivot to data center energy solutions continue to drive positive investor sentiment.
