Elizabeth Warren Blasts ‘Trump Math’ as Oil Giants That Put $5 Million Into His Inauguration Fund See ‘$23 Billion in Excess War Profits’

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on Monday slammed Donald Trump, accusing the President of helping oil companies report windfall profits amid the war with Iran.

$5 Million to $23 Billion?

In a post on the social media platform X, Warren said that oil companies had “invested $5 million” in Trump’s inauguration fund. “Then they saw $23 billion in excess war profits,” she said.

Warren then lamented the high costs of gas at the pump. “And you got a gas bill that was $857 higher than last year,” the Massachusetts senator added, calling it “Trump math.”

According to data from the American Automobile Association, the national average price for a gallon of gas remained slightly above $4 at $4.0091/gallon. Californians continued to pay the highest price for gas on average at $5.5955/gallon.

At press time, both the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude and the Brent crude recorded an uptick in prices at $82.20/bbl and $87.77/bbl, respectively. The United States Oil Fund (NYSE:USO) also recorded a 0.02% surge to $125.94 during overnight trading on Monday.

JB Pritzker Decries Oil Profits

Gov. Jay Robert ‘JB’ Pritzker (D-IL) criticized the “windfall profits” reported by oil companies following the Iran war, demanding that companies like Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP), ExxonMobil Holdings Corp (NYSE:XOM) and more return the money to consumers.

GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan, on the other hand, said that gas prices in the U.S. could surge as uncertainty looms over the Strait of Hormuz after the Iranian government demanded the U.S. compensate Tehran for damages, as well as provide sanctions relief to reopen the waterway.

Iran War Updates

Meanwhile, Trump, during a press briefing cited by Al Jazeera on Monday, insisted that the U.S. remained in control of the Strait of Hormuz, saying that the waterway was “open.” On the other hand, Trump also demanded compensation from the Iranians for the war.

“I am likewise demanding compensation from Iran, for all of the people that they have killed and gravely wounded with their roadside bombs and many conflicts,” he said in a Truth Social post on Monday.
