Cryptocurrency bookmakers are not pricing in particularly high chances of the U.S. gaining possession of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile anytime soon.
Polymarket Sees Aggressive Betting
Polygon (CRYPTO: POL)-based Polymarket showed a 22% possibility of this happening anytime this year, down 6 percentage points in a week.
The odds of the U.S. obtaining Iran’s nuclear dust by the end of June were only 7% as of this writing.
The bet has already garnered over $22 million. To qualify, the U.S. government or military must confirm that they have physical custody or control of the enriched uranium, regardless of whether it is held within U.S. territory or in another location.
Meanwhile, the odds that Iran ends uranium enrichment before the end of the year stood at 59%, up from 51% a week earlier.
Nuclear Disarmament Remains A Sticking Issue
These developments come as Iran rejected any commitments to relinquish its nuclear stockpiles, remove equipment or shut down facilities. The ongoing negotiations have no clauses concerning Iran’s nuclear commitments, Iranian state media reported, citing sources familiar with the discussions.
President Donald Trump said earlier this week that the nuclear dust will either be “immediately” turned over to the U.S. or destroyed in place or at another acceptable location in coordination with the Iranian regime.
The International Atomic Energy Agency estimates Iran holds about 970 pounds of uranium enriched to 60%, far above the 20% level classified as highly enriched uranium and closer to the 90% plus grade needed for a nuclear weapon.
