Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass) has criticized President Donald Trump for rising gasoline prices in the U.S., as the conflict with Iran is set to enter day 19.

Ballroom Marble Over Gas Prices

On Tuesday, the senator quoted a post on the social media platform X that shared a video of Trump talking about the marble used in the White House’s new ballroom, estimated to cost over $400 million.

Warren criticized Trump amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. “Gas prices are up 27% since last month, and Donald Trump is talking about the marble for his ballroom,” she said in the post.

Rising Oil Prices

The conflict has given rise to surging oil prices across the globe as diesel surpassed the $5 threshold on Tuesday, according to data shared by the American Automobile Association (AAA), while in California, diesel costs skyrocketed to $6.49 per gallon, followed by Washington at $6.11 and Hawaii at $6.01, respectively.

Meanwhile, California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) also slammed the Trump administration for rising gas prices, sharing that Americans paid $1.5 billion in excess for gas. However, the rising prices were defended by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.

US-Iran Conflict

Amid the escalating tensions, Trump’s call to deploy naval forces to open the Strait of Hormuz was rejected by allies Germany, Spain, and Italy. Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, shared that an Israeli strike on Iran’s security chief, Ali Larijani, had resulted in his death.

It’s worth noting that the Trump administration has faced criticism for the Iran war, even from within its own ranks, as the President’s top counterterrorism official, Joe Kent, resigned from his post on Tuesday, urging the White House to reverse its course on the Iran war.

Elsewhere, the conflict and rising tensions with Iran have also given rise to concerns about its effects on the global markets, as experts think the prolonged conflict in the Middle East could give rise to economic decline like the 2008 financial crisis.
