The Academy Awards are still weeks away, but bettors have already bet millions predicting the winners

Bettors Pick Favorites

Leonardo DiCaprio’s “One Battle After Another” emerged as the clear favorite on Polymarket to win Best Picture, with 75% odds in its favor.

The supernatural horror flick “Sinners” was at a distant second with a 13% possibility, while “Hamnet,” which dramatises the family life of William Shakespeare, held a 7% chance.

Over $16 million has been wagered on the outcome, making it one of the hottest betting markets on Polymarket currently.

“Sinners” and “One Battle After Another” landed multiple acting and directing nominations and are betting favorites in many of those categories.

Paul Thomas Anderson, director of “One Battle After Another,” dominated the Best Director odds at 90%. Timothée Chalamet emerged as the frontrunner for Best Actor for his role in “Marty Supreme,” with DiCaprio trailing far behind at 10%.

Polymarket, based on Polygon (CRYPTO: POL), allows users to buy “Yes” and “No” shares in USDC (CRYPTO: USDC) stablecoin. The shares representing the correct outcome are paid out $1 USDC each upon market resolution.

Countdown Begins For Oscars

While Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) secured Best Picture slots, Warner Bros. Discovery (NASDAQ:WBD) led the pack in total nominations.

The legendary studio racked up 30 nominations across major categories, including a record 16 for “Sinners” and 13 for “One Battle After Another.”

Final voting for the winners will begin on Feb. 26 and close on March 5. The ceremony will take place on March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Comedian Conan O’Brien is set to host the show for the second consecutive year.
