U.S. stocks traded lower midway through trading, with the Dow Jones index falling more than 400 points on Friday.

The Dow traded down 0.87% to 48,646.87 while the NASDAQ fell 0.88% to 23,476.27. The S&P 500 also fell, dropping, 0.65% to 6,923.38.

Consumer staples shares gained by 0.3% on Friday.

In trading on Friday, materials stocks fell by 1.7%.

Top Headline

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) reported stronger-than-expected financial results for the first quarter of fiscal 2026 after the market closed on Thursday.

Apple reported fiscal first-quarter revenue of $143.76 billion, beating analyst estimates of $138.42 billion. The iPhone maker reported earnings of $2.84 per share for the first quarter, beating analyst estimates of $2.66 per share, according to Benzinga Pro.

  • Robert Half Inc (NYSE:RHI) shares shot up 25% to $33.81 after the company reported better-than-expected quarterly financial results.
  • Shares of TechCreate Group Ltd (NYSE:TCGL) got a boost, surging 218% to $274.20. TechCreate stated it “is not aware of any material nonpublic information that has not been publicly disclosed” that would account for the trading activity, according to a Thursday statement from the company, responding to a NYSE American inquiry issued before Thursday’s regular session.
  • VivoSim Labs Inc (NASDAQ:VIVS) shares were also up, gaining 76% to $3.00 after the company announced it signed JCBio as an authorized distributor in Korea and Tekon Biotech as an authorized distributor in China for its NAMKind toxicology services in liver and small intestine.

Equities Trading DOWN

  • Brand Engagement Network Inc (NASDAQ:BNAI) shares dropped 40% to $31.83 after the company announced it entered into a securities purchase agreement for a $1.518 million private placement at $63.25 per share.
  • Shares of PennyMac Financial Services Inc (NYSE:PFSI) were down 34% to $98.95 after the company reported worse-than-expected quarterly financial results.
  • Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:LXRX) was down, falling 21% to $1.14. Lexicon announced the pricing of approximately $94.6 million public offering and concurrent private placement.

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded up 0.4% to $65.66 while gold traded down 6.6% at $5,001.80.

Silver traded down 18.7% to $93.01 on Friday, while copper fell 3.2% to $6.0045.

Euro zone

European shares were higher today. The eurozone’s STOXX 600 rose 0.60%, while Spain’s IBEX 35 Index rose 1.64%. London’s FTSE 100 rose 0.37%, Germany’s DAX gained 1.02% and France’s CAC 40 gained 0.81% during the session.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed lower on Friday, with Japan’s Nikkei falling 0.1%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index dipping 2.08%, China’s Shanghai Composite falling 0.96% and India’s BSE Sensex falling 0.36%.

Economics

  • U.S. producer prices increased 0.5% month-over-month in December, recording the largest rise in three months, following a 0.2% rise in the previous month and exceeding market expectations of 0.2%.
  • The Chicago PMI rose to 54 in January from 42.7 in the previous month and topping market estimates of 44.
