Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a cardiologist who once treated former Vice President Dick Cheney, is calling for Congress to examine President Donald Trump’s fitness for office after the president tied his hard-line push to acquire Greenland to frustration over not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.

Reiner Urges Bipartisan Inquiry Into Presidential Fitness

In a post on X Monday, Reiner wrote, “This letter, and the fact that the president directed that it be distributed to other European countries, should trigger a bipartisan congressional inquiry into presidential fitness.”

Reiner was referring to Trump’s recent message to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, released by Norway’s government, in which the president complained that Norway “decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS” and said he “no longer feel[s] an obligation to think purely of Peace” but will instead focus on “what is good and proper for the United States of America.”

Greenland Letter Deepens Concerns Over Trump’s Judgment

In the same exchange, Trump questioned why Denmark has a “right of ownership” over Greenland and asserted that “The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland.” Norwegian officials stated that the president requested his message be shared more widely with other governments.

The letter landed as Trump escalates pressure on Denmark and the European Union, warning that he will impose steep tariffs on several European allies starting February 1 unless the United States is allowed to buy the mineral-rich Arctic territory, home to approximately 57,000 people.

Health Regimen And Cognitive Claims Face Scrutiny

Reiner has increasingly questioned Trump’s health and medical decisions. Earlier this month he called the president’s reported 325-milligram daily aspirin regimen “unorthodox” and said it “makes no sense” given current cardiac guidelines.

Trump has brushed aside such concerns. In a Truth Social post earlier this month, he said White House doctors declared him in “PERFECT HEALTH” and claimed he has “ACED” a cognitive exam “for the third straight time.”
