Cryptocurrency bettors increasingly expect Gov. Greg Abbott (R) to win reelection and secure a fourth term as Texas governor.
Abbott Eyes a Record Fourth Term
Polygon (CRYPTO: POL)-based Polymarket currently prices in 60% odds on Abbott’s victory, versus 40% for Democrat Gina Hinojosa.
It’s worth flagging, though, that Abbott’s odds have retreated sharply since peaking at 95% in late July.
Abbott has been a governor since 2015. If elected, he will become the state’s longest-serving governor.
Hinojosa serves in the Texas House of Representatives. No Democrat has won a Texas gubernatorial election since 1990.
The election is scheduled for Nov. 3.
Trump Calls Abbott ‘Exceptional’
Trump gave Abbott his “complete and total endorsement” and described him as an “exceptional Governor and man” on Friday.
Notably, Abbott took a harder line on AI data centers, implementing a temporary statewide pause halting new data center approvals from connecting to the Texas power grid.
The move put him at odds with Trump, who publicly criticized the moratorium and called it “a mistake.”
Trump has criticized communities that oppose data centers, while Abbott has argued that Texas must address its unique power-grid challenges.
