Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says one of the biggest challenges for the Democratic Party ahead of next week’s midterm elections remains funding from billionaire Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk to GOP leaders, as well as the threat of misinformation regarding votes.
‘Reality Contradicts Donald Trump,’ Hillary Clinton Says
Clinton took to X, sharing a clip from her interview with journalist Kara Swisher on Thursday. She was asked about what worried her ahead of the midterms. “I’m most worried about the flood of money from the Elon Musks,” she said.
Clinton added that she was also concerned about Trump supporters “distorting the election, confusing voters, convincing them either not to show up and vote because it doesn’t matter,” calling it the Democrats’ “biggest challenge” as things stand.
However, she expressed optimism and said that the people were “voting their reality,” pointing to heightened energy costs. “When you pull up to fill up your tank or your tractor, for heaven’s sakes, the reality contradicts Donald Trump and his cult members,” she said, predicting that the “distortion and the gaslighting just may not work.”
Clinton then said that “Trump and the Republicans are trying to tell you don’t believe your own eyes. And I think people are smarter than that.”
Notably, Musk was reportedly planning to spend more than $360 million to fund GOP candidates during the midterm elections. The move was criticized by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who accused the Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX) CEO of wanting to keep GOP in power to amass more wealth.
The billionaire is also supporting Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the Senate race, donating $158 million to political groups supporting Paxton against Democratic Party Senate Candidate James Talarico.
Gas Prices, Oil Movement
As tensions escalate amid the ongoing war with Iran, gas prices have remained elevated. According to the data collected by the American Automobile Association (AAA), the national average price of gas was $4.2258/gallon. The same data suggests that the national average was $3.0384/gallon.
On the diesel front, the national average was $6.3347/gallon despite Trump signing an executive order to allow the sale of dyed diesel for highway use temporarily.
Oil ETFs like the ProShares Ultra Bloomberg Crude Oil (NYSE:UCO) rose 0.28% to $67.00 during overnight trading on Thursday. The United States Oil Fund (NYSE:USO) ETF also recorded a 0.39% rise to $168.85 during overnight trading.
