Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F) CEO Jim Farley, during the automaker’s Q3 2026 earnings call on Wednesday, hailed the upcoming sub-$30,000 Fathom EV pickup truck, saying its capabilities had exceeded the CEO’s expectations.

Ford Fathom’s Hands-Free ADAS Experience ‘Blew Me Away,’ Says Jim Farley

During the earnings call, Farley said the EV, which is being tested in Louisville, Kentucky, “remains on track for the fourth quarter of next year.” He then said that he tested the car himself.

“Wow! It completely blew me away. The 0 to 60, huge room inside, and the hands-free ADAS experience was like something I’ve never experienced,” Farley said during the earnings call, adding that the EV pickup was a “breakthrough product.”

The CEO also said that the Fathom would be “available to more Americans” and that its under-$30,000 Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP), as well as low cost of ownership, will be “perfect for today’s market.”

Data Center Applications

“Our starting point is U.S.-manufactured grid-scale battery storage for companies building America’s new power infrastructure and data centers,” Farley said during the earnings call.

Farley said that the company was preparing manufacturing capacity and securing customers. “We have completed trial runs of electrode mixing, the first step in producing prismatic LFP battery cells, using the exact same process as our battery plant in Marshall, Michigan,” the company said.

He then pointed to Ford’s energy deployment targets. “We remain on track to bring 20 gigawatt hours of annual capacity online by the end of next year. Commercial progress is encouraging and demand remains very strong,” Farley said.

“Late-stage negotiations” and “executed contracts” made up for the company’s 80% energy storage capacity. “We are building a diverse customer base across solar, grid support, and data centers, and we expect our 2028 capacity to be fully committed by Q1 of next year,” Farley added.

The automaker posted Q3 earnings of 49 cents per share, beating analyst estimates of 41 cents per share. Ford’s $49.53 billion Q3 revenue also exceeded market expectations of $46.24 billion. Ford’s EV unit, the Model e, reported an EBIT loss of $1.1 billion, which illustrated a 25% YoY improvement.

Ford Fathom to Power Homes?

On Tuesday, Farley shared that the upcoming Fathom EV will support bidirectional power flow and can provide more than 10 kW of projected AC power to a home without requiring a separate wall-mounted inverter.

A recently surfaced Ford patent also showed a concept for multiple storage configurations that could potentially accommodate a TV in the Fathom’s front storage area.

Price Action: F shares were down 0.12% to $11.92 during overnight trading on Wednesday.
