Apple Inc. (NASDAQ) reportedly plans a $400 price increase for its new touch-integrated MacBook Pro models launching Wednesday at the “Pro and Tell” event.
Apple Touchscreen MacBook Pro Could Start At $2,899
The tech giant’s upcoming 14-inch touchscreen MacBook Pro could start at $2,899, Bloomberg columnist Mark Gurman reported on Tuesday, citing sources.
Gurman said on X that “Apple bets customers will pay a big premium for touch-screen, OLED laptops.”
Apple did not immediately respond to Benzinga’s request for comment.
16-Inch MacBook Pro Could Cost $3,399
The current 16-inch MacBook Pro starts at $2,999. Considering the reported $400 price increase, the new touchscreen version could cost $3,399.
“That could make the 16-inch model at least $3,399,” Gurman wrote on X.
MacBook Pro to Feature M5 Chips, Dynamic Island
These laptops will likely retain the overall design but be lighter and feature Dynamic Island. They will also run on Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.
On X, Gurman said, “I’m still expecting M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, redesigned hinge for touch-screen stability, impressive OS changes for touch, new cooling system, slightly thinner and noticeably lighter design.”
Interestingly, in 2010, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs said that touchscreen laptops are “ergonomically terrible.”
The tech giant maintained this position for years, with Apple CEO John Ternus saying in 2021, “We make the world’s best touch computer on an iPad.”
Price Action: On Tuesday, Apple shares closed at $347.10, up 0.93%. In after-hours trading, shares rose slightly to $347.11, according to Benzinga Pro.
According to Benzinga Edge Rankings, Apple’s stock ranks in the 97th percentile for Quality and the 41st percentile for Growth.
