Rocket Lab Puts SDA Military Satellites on the Factory Floor

The move comes as Rocket Lab highlights progress on its military satellite program. The company said eight of the 18 spacecraft it is building for the Space Development Agency (SDA) are now in production.

Rocket Lab posted on X, “Eight of 18 spacecraft are on the floor right now, in build.”

Members of SDA’s Tranche 2 leadership team recently visited the company’s California headquarters to see the spacecraft being assembled. The company also highlighted its in-house production of components, including solar panels, star trackers, radios and flight software.

The satellites are part of a $515 million program awarded in 2024. They will support SDA’s Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture, a network designed for resilient military communications. Rocket Lab must launch them by July 2027.

In December 2025, the company won a separate $816 million contract for 18 satellites that will carry missile-warning and tracking sensors, including for hypersonic threats.

Neutron Rocket Moves Toward Virginia Launch Pad

Separately, Rocket Lab is advancing Neutron, its reusable medium-lift rocket. On Monday, the company said on X, “Earlier today we sent Neutron’s Stage 2 and Thrust Module out of the Neutron Factory and onto a barge for transport through Chesapeake Bay to Wallops Island in Virginia.”

Stage 2 is the rocket’s upper section. The Thrust Module is the base section that houses the engines.

Once it arrives, the Thrust Module will be mounted on the launch mount at Launch Complex 3 (LC-3). Rocket Lab said checkouts will begin there, followed by wider systems demonstrations. These include integrated fluids tests and module-to-launch-mount interface checkouts.

Electron Cadence and Earnings Ahead

Last week, Rocket Lab said its Electron rocket launched three satellites for HawkEye 360, a signals intelligence data-and-analytics company. It was the company’s 98th Electron launch and the 19th of 2026.

Rocket Lab will report third-quarter 2026 results on Nov. 9. In the quarter reported in August, the company posted revenue of $234.07 million, beating the analyst estimate of $231.07 million by 1.3%. Loss per share was 8 cents, in line with estimates.
