Michael Burry once again took aim at the AI spending boom on Thursday with a song predicting Big Tech’s trillion-dollar data centers will crumble into obsolescence.

In a post on his Substack, “Cassandra Unchained”, Burry shared a track he said was written by a friend of the newsletter, calling it “brilliant” and “extremely well-done.” He also uploaded the song to his YouTube channel and published the full lyrics.

A GPU Arms Race Set to Music

The song is told from the point of view of an AI model. Over several verses, the narrator watches companies pour concrete, lay fiber and buy land for data centers, then predicts the facilities will become obsolete as models grow more efficient.

A refrain built around the word “compression” runs throughout.

“[Compression] I’m the algorithm watching empires fall

[Compression] Turns out you didn’t need it all

[Compression] Every data center every rack every gpu

[Compression] they bought was solving for a problem that I already solved

[Compression] This is not a war,

This is just math.”

The lyrics take aim at Big Tech valuations, too. One verse argues the largest companies hold their worth mainly because customer data sits trapped inside proprietary systems, and suggests AI will soon be able to pull it out. Another compares the rush to buy GPUs to a nuclear arms race.

“I’m watching humans build for futures that I’ve already seen. They’re buying GPUs like nuclear weapons in an arms race, but the war’s already over they just haven’t seen my face,” the lyrics state.

Burry closed his post with a question: “Quite an earworm, no?”

Burry Puts His Money Where His Mouth Is

Lighthearted delivery aside, the song’s message lines up with bets Burry has held for months.

Burry has held various bearish positions against Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA), Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT), Applied Materials Inc. (NASDAQ:AMAT) the iShares Semiconductor ETF (NASDAQ:SOXX), Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ:PLTR) and more.

Burry has been sounding alarms on chipmakers for even longer. Back in November 2025 he called Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA), the Cisco equivalent of the current AI boom, a reference to Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) and its collapse after the dot-com bubble burst.

Big Tech shows no interest in slowing down. Total 2026 spending plans from the biggest hyperscalers topped $700 billion, according to Reuters, and the figure keeps climbing. Much of the money flows from Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT), Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL), Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) and Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:META).

Burry’s song makes the opposite bet. In its telling, every rack and every GPU is aimed at a problem AI will soon solve on its own.
