AST SpaceMobile, Inc. (NASDAQ:ASTS) shares are trading higher after the company penned a letter of intent with Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telefónica and Vodafone Group  (NASDAQ:VOD) to explore a joint bid for European Mobile Satellite Services spectrum.

European Carrier Collaboration

The partnership aims to expand coverage, improve connectivity and integrate satellite broadband with existing mobile services for more than 500 million subscribers.

Through its European joint venture, Satellite Connect Europe, AST SpaceMobile is developing ground infrastructure to connect its BlueBird satellites with mobile networks while keeping data and service operations under European jurisdiction.

Its satellites connect directly to standard smartphones, with demonstrated download speeds of up to 98.9 Mbps and next-generation models expected to approach 200 Mbps.

AST SpaceMobile’s technology can use about 1,150 MHz of its partners’ low- and mid-band spectrum worldwide.

Combined with its S-band spectrum rights, this flexibility could support greater coverage and capacity across Europe, subject to regulatory approvals.

ASTS Outperforms Communication Services Sector

ASTS is outperforming its Communication Services peers today, up 6.94% versus the sector down 0.27%, a gap of about 7.21 percentage points. That’s a clear case of stock-specific strength on a day when the sector itself is not leading.

Communication Services ranks 5 out of 11 sectors (mid-tier) in the current session, sitting behind leaders like Technology (+2.14%) and Consumer Discretionary (+1.63%). Zooming out, the sector is down 4.12% over the past 30 days and flat over 90 days, so single-name breakouts can be more headline-driven than trend-driven.

AST SpaceMobile Benzinga Edge Rankings: Momentum And Trend

Below is the Benzinga Edge scorecard for AST SpaceMobile, highlighting its strengths and weaknesses compared to the broader market:

  • Momentum: Bearish (Score: 3.42) — The score flags very weak trend strength, which fits a chart still well below key moving averages despite today’s pop.

The Verdict: AST SpaceMobile’s Benzinga Edge signal reveals a momentum-challenged setup where headline-driven spikes can happen, but the broader trend still needs repair. For longer-term bulls, the cleaner confirmation would be sustained strength that starts reclaiming major moving averages rather than a single-session surge.
