CleanSpark Inc. (NASDAQ:CLSK) shares are slipping Wednesday as Bitcoin falls after fresh inflation data and pulls crypto-linked companies down with it.
- CleanSpark stock is feeling bearish pressure. Why is CLSK stock dropping?
CleanSpark Falls as Bitcoin Slides After CPI
Wednesday’s inflation report knocked Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) lower, and crypto-linked companies like CleanSpark moved down with it. Prices climbed faster than economists had forecast, so traders now expect the Federal Reserve to take a harder line. Meanwhile, Treasury yields are moving up and the dollar is firming. Those shifts leave investors less willing to take risks, which hurts speculative assets.
The September reading showed consumer prices 3.7% above their level a year ago, while economists had looked for 3.6%. Excluding food and energy, core prices were up 2.6%, against a 2.5% estimate. Interest-rate-sensitive stocks took a beating before the opening bell.
The dollar index added 0.4%, and the 2-year Treasury yield rose 11 basis points to 4.91%. Skyler Weinand, chief investment officer at Regan Capital, said inflation is not cooling and remains on the wrong path.
CoreWeave Bond Yield Spike Draws Musk’s Attention
AI financing is a second source of unease. A chart tracking $1.25 billion of CoreWeave Inc (NASDAQ:CRWV) bonds that mature in 2032 shows the yield peaking at 15% before closing at 14.5%, its highest close so far. Venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya shared the chart online.
Early Wednesday, Elon Musk replied to the post in one word: “Yikes.” The reply unsettled neocloud investors, and AI infrastructure names appear to be feeling the pressure. That may add to the risk-off backdrop for speculative assets.
Palihapitiya Warns of AI Private Credit Bubble
Palihapitiya shared the chart with a stark message. AI spending, Palihapitiya argues, is creating a “private credit bubble.”
The numbers behind the warning start with spending. Palihapitiya projects that Alphabet, Oracle and four other tech giants will lift capital outlays from $470 billion in 2025 to over $1.3 trillion by 2027. Borrowing is plugging that hole through debt, leases and other financing, Palihapitiya said.
Direct lending to U.S. borrowers, worth $96 billion in 2010, reached roughly $2.4 trillion in 2025. Pricing adds to the worry. Lenders charge AI companies just 0.1 percentage point more than other private credit borrowers: 6.2 points over the base rate on average versus 6.1. Palihapitiya said that slim gap hints lenders may be underpricing AI’s risks.
What the Moves Mean for CleanSpark
The market moves connect to CleanSpark in two ways. The first is direct. CleanSpark mines Bitcoin, so its shares tend to follow the cryptocurrency’s price. Hotter inflation, higher yields and a firmer dollar all weaken the appetite for speculative bets, and Bitcoin falls in that group.
The second link is weaker. Worries about AI financing may add to the retreat from risk. If investors view CleanSpark as an AI infrastructure name, the pressure that Musk’s reply appears to be putting on that group could reach the stock too.
CLSK Shares Are Tumbling
