Honda Motor Co. Ltd. (NYSE:HMC) announced Thursday it is working with Redwire Corporation (NYSE:RDW) on a robotics system for future commercial space stations.
Honda, Redwire Target Automated Space Research
The proposed system would combine Honda’s multi-fingered robotic hand with Redwire’s STAARK robotic arm and experiment locker technology.
It could automate much of the in-orbit research workflow, including sample handling, materials transfers, laboratory equipment operation, inventory management, cargo movement, and inspections.
Honda’s robotic hand uses force and tactile sensing for precise manipulation, while Redwire’s STAARK arm has demonstrated autonomous tracking and grasping of moving objects.
The concept is designed for future commercial stations expected to operate with smaller crews and shorter astronaut stays, reducing time spent on routine laboratory work.
Honda and Redwire will discuss potential applications with commercial station developers and prospective partners at the International Astronautical Congress in Antalya, Türkiye, from Oct. 5-9.

Broadening Infrastructure Footprint
The Honda project adds another leg to Redwire’s push into non-traditional space infrastructure, spanning robotics and in-orbit computing.
Redwire recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Sophia Space to explore scalable orbital data center infrastructure.
The companies plan to combine Sophia Space’s modular TILE computing architecture with Redwire technologies including deployable systems, solar power, thermal management, avionics and spacecraft integration.
Price Action: Redwire shares were up 1.48% at $10.59 and Honda Motor shares were down 0.08% at $31.57 at the time of publication on Thursday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
