The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has publicly appealed to the citizens of the U.S., calling for a change in the U.S. government under President Donald Trump.
In a 26-page open letter released Tuesday, the IRGC called on Americans to “wake up” and take back control from what it described as “corrupt politicians,” arguing that the opportunity is particularly strong as the U.S. political system is at “its weakest.”
“God will come to the aid of the American people if they decide to change course,” the letter read.
The letter, addressed to “the honorable people of the United States of America”, accuses the Trump administration of misrepresenting the realities of the war, Iran’s nuclear program and its grip over the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC also claimed victory in the war, stating that the U.S. failed to achieve its war objectives, including curbing Iran’s nuclear program, despite extensive U.S. and Israeli strikes that caused limited damage to nuclear-related facilities and air-defense sites.
The letter sought to distinguish the U.S. government from its citizens while highlighting similarities between the concerns of Americans and Iranians. It explained that Iran’s “Death to America” slogan targets the U.S. political establishment, not the American people.
