Sunshine Biopharma Inc. (NASDAQ:SBFM) announced on Wednesday that it has secured regulatory approval to introduce its generic Enalapril tablets across the Canadian market, signaling a significant strategic step into first-line antihypertensive treatments.
The newly approved medication, the generic equivalent of the well-known brand Vasotec, will be available to patients in multiple dosage strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg tablets.
Sunshine Biopharma currently markets 60 generic prescription drugs in Canada and plans to launch approximately 12 additional drugs during the remainder of 2026.
Strategic Canadian Distribution
The pharmaceutical firm intends to leverage Nora Pharma Inc., its wholly owned subsidiary operating within Canada.
This dedicated division has already constructed a formidable, wide-reaching distribution infrastructure throughout the nation.
Through this established pipeline, retail pharmacies across Canada can expect to receive their initial shipments of the newly approved generic medication by the close of 2026.
Tapping Into Antihypertensive Market
Sunshine said that, according to industry data, the worldwide antihypertensive drug sector was valued at a robust $25.94 billion in 2025.
Projections indicate this space will surge to an estimated $37.24 billion by the year 2034, registering a steady compound annual growth rate of 4.1%.
Furthermore, the broader Canadian pharmaceutical landscape itself represents approximately 2.1% of the total global industry, proudly standing as the sixth-largest individual market globally.
In May, Sunshine Biopharma received Canadian regulatory approval for generic amoxicillin as part of the expansion of its generic antibiotic portfolio.
The company said the product will be available in multiple dosage forms and strengths and is expected to be ready to ship to pharmacies in August 2026.
In June, the company concluded a one-for-ten reverse stock split to regain compliance with Nasdaq’s minimum bid price requirement for continued listing.
SBFM Stock Price Activity: Sunshine Biopharma shares were up 1.79% at $1.13 during premarket trading on Wednesday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
