U.S. stocks traded higher this morning, with the Dow Jones index gaining more than 400 points on Monday.
Following the market opening Monday, the Dow traded up 0.80% to 52,361.92 while the NASDAQ climbed 0.23% to 25,024.65. The S&P 500 also rose, gaining, 0.28% to 7,432.59.
Leading and Lagging Sectors
Communication services shares jumped by 2.5% on Monday.
In trading on Monday, energy stocks fell by 1.84%.
Top Headline
AstraZeneca PLC (NASDAQ:AZN) shares gained over 2% on Monday after the company reported earnings for the second quarter.
The company reported second-quarter earnings of $2.63 per share which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $2.48 per share. The company reported quarterly sales of $15.384 billion which missed the analyst consensus estimate of $15.459 billion.
Equities Trading UP
- LiveWire Group Inc (NYSE:LVWR) shares shot up 112% to $3.05. LiveWire Group, last week, posted second-quarter results, in which consolidated revenue increased 55%.
- Shares of Baiya International Group Inc (NASDAQ:BIYA) got a boost, surging 91% to $3.68. Baiya International Group, last week, filed a prospectus for a $200 million mixed-shelf offering.
- Entera Bio Ltd (NASDAQ:ENTX) shares were also up, gaining 73% to $3.55 after the company reported announced pricing of oversubscribed $275 million private placement.
Equities Trading DOWN
- C3is Inc (NASDAQ:CISS) shares dropped 76% to $0.13 after the company priced a $6 million underwritten public offering.
- Shares of Capricor Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:CAPR) were down 65% to $6.93 after the FDA said the data for the company’s Duchenne Cell Therapy does not provide substantial evidence of effectiveness.
- AiRWA Inc (NASDAQ:YYAI) was down, falling 65% to $3.99 after the company announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Hongkong Best Life Trade Co.
Commodities
In commodity news, oil traded down 6.6% to $83.44 while gold traded up 0.7% at $4,097.20.
Silver traded up 0.8% to $59.370 on Monday, while copper rose 0.6% to $6.3930.
Euro zone
European shares were higher today. The eurozone’s STOXX 600 rose 0.9%, while Spain’s IBEX 35 Index gained 1.6% London’s FTSE 100 rose 0.6%, Germany’s DAX gained 1.7%, while France’s CAC 40 gained 1%.
Asia Pacific Markets
Asian markets closed higher on Monday, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 gaining 0.50%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index surging 0.98%, China’s Shanghai Composite surging 1.15% and India’s BSE Sensex jumping 1.02%.
Economics
U.S. durable goods orders rose 0.3% month-over-month to $334.77 billion in June, compared to a revised 4% gain in May, but down from market estimates of a 1.6% surge.
