Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) and Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX) CEO Elon Musk may be the one to look out for at the upcoming Academy Awards in March next year, despite his criticism of the award ceremony.
‘Musk’ the Documentary, OpenAI Movie
On Thursday, Forbes published an article that talked about a documentary called “Musk,” slated to release in October this year and directed by documentary film director Alex Gibney. Not much else is known about the movie.
Another movie, called “Artificial,” will revolve around OpenAI CEO Sam Altman‘s ouster and reinstatement. Artificial will be directed by Luca Guadagnino, best known for films like “Call Me By Your Name.”
The movie will feature Musk in a supporting role portrayed by actor Ike Barinholtz, while actor Andrew Garfield will portray Altman. Both films are reportedly planning to campaign for Oscar consideration in eligible categories, including Best Picture, the report said.
Musk Vs Altman, Oscars Criticism
Notably, both Musk and Altman were involved in a fiery exchange earlier on social media, with Musk reiterating his scammer criticism of the OpenAI CEO. Musk has also filed a $150 billion lawsuit against Altman, accusing him of taking control of OpenAI away from its nonprofit mission.
Musk had also criticized the Oscars awards show, calling it “unwatchable” via a post on the social media platform X earlier this year.
Elon Musk’s Run-Ins With the Entertainment Industry
While Musk has been heavily featured in pop culture and media, including the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), as well as the TV show “Young Sheldon,” among others, the trillionaire has recently been in the news for criticizing director Christopher Nolan‘s “Odyssey” starring an ensemble cast including actor Anne Hathaway, Matt Damon and Robert Pattinson, among others.
Musk expressed sharp criticism of actor Lupita Nyong’o‘s portrayal of Helen of Troy in the movie, according to a report by Variety in May. Nyong’o is of Kenyan descent, which Musk has taken issue with. He also slammed the casting of trans actor Elliot Page in the movie.
Nonetheless, the movie has impressed audiences and critics alike, with the latest from the “Oppenheimer” and “Tenet” director holding a 4.3 rating on Letterboxd, as well as a 96% rating from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
