Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, has accused the U.S. of breaching the Islamabad Memorandum, while calling for justice over the deaths of Iran’s “martyred leader” and other victims of recent attacks.

Baghaei claimed that the U.S. has “dismantled” various sections of the Islamabad Memorandum within one month. He stated that the MOU was undoubtedly in “a period of crisis.”

Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on Monday, the spokesperson affirmed that Iran had always been serious, cautious, and in good faith during negotiations, never being the first to breach its commitments, reported WANA News Iran.

He criticized the U.S. and Israel for their rhetoric, accusing the two countries of attempting to portray themselves as victims.

Warning Over Hormuz Control

Baghaei dismissed President Donald Trump‘s claim that Iran had agreed to all issues in Muscat, including nuclear matters and the Strait of Hormuz, only to allegedly attack ships two hours later. He accused U.S. officials of habitual lying and clarified that the recent Muscat discussions were exclusively centered on the Strait of Hormuz, with no other topics being addressed.

He also said that U.S. military bases in the Persian Gulf remain potential targets for airstrikes and warned that U.S.-led efforts to escort commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz could heighten regional insecurity and put vessels at greater risk.

The Crisis Escalates

The accusations come in the wake of escalating tensions in the region. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) recently launched a new wave of offensive strikes against Iran, targeting its air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats.

On the other hand, Iran has reportedly targeted U.S. military assets in Jordan, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain. It also claimed to have closed the Strait of Hormuz after accusing a vessel of transiting the strategic waterway without authorization.

On Sunday, Baghaei urged the United Nations to stop allowing the U.S. to use their territory for military operations against Iran, arguing that Iran is being unfairly blamed for defending its sovereignty while the actual aggressors are not being held accountable for violating international law.
