Donald Trump Jr. defended his father, President Donald Trump’s, Iran diplomacy on Sunday, calling a potential peace and nuclear agreement with Tehran a “HUGE win for America” as some Republican lawmakers warned the emerging framework could concede too much.
Trump Jr. Defends Iran Diplomacy Push
“This is a HUGE win for America,” Trump Jr. wrote on X. “We need to ignore the people who won’t be happy until there is a ground invasion of Iran. My father promised to stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon and that’s exactly what he is achieving!!!”

Trump Jr. amplified a post from Matthew Boyle, Breitbart News’ Washington bureau chief, who praised the reported framework as a major political and diplomatic victory. “If this is all true and all the other reports coming out are true, this is a massive massive massive victory for President Trump,” Boyle wrote, adding that few senators, world leaders or others believed Trump could accomplish such a result.
Boyle contrasted the emerging framework with the Obama-era Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, known as the Iran nuclear deal, arguing that Trump’s potential agreement appeared tougher on Tehran.
Trump Urges Negotiators To Move Carefully
The Associated Press reported on Sunday that the United States was close to a deal with Iran that could end the war, reopen the Strait of Hormuz and require Iran to give up its highly enriched uranium stockpile. Trump said he told negotiators “not to rush into a deal,” while saying talks were “orderly and constructive.”
Trump later said the agreement was “not even fully negotiated yet” and insisted he would not make “bad deals,” pushing back against Republican critics who want a harder line.
Republican Hawks Warn Against Concessions
Those critics include Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas). Wicker warned that “the rumored 60-day ceasefire” would be a “disaster,” while Cruz said he was “deeply concerned” that sanctions relief, continued Iranian enrichment, or Iranian leverage over the Strait of Hormuz could produce a “disastrous mistake.”
Trump also posted an AI-generated image of a bomb on Truth Social later on Sunday as GOP lawmakers questioned whether the deal could weaken U.S. leverage.
Meanwhile, Iran has denied reaching a nuclear agreement with Washington. Reuters reported that a U.S. blockade of Iranian ports remains in place while talks continue. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the U.S. would seek “another way” if diplomacy failed.
