On Saturday, President Donald Trump was moved out of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner after several gunshots were heard inside the ballroom at the Washington Hilton.
Trump Says Gunman Apprehended
Trump, in a post on Truth Social on Saturday night, said that “The shooter has been apprehended,” and praised Secret Service and law enforcement.

Trump added that he has asked that the “Show go on,” but will be “guided by Law Enforcement.”
Five Shots Reported
The disruption halted the program as security rushed to the front of the room where Trump was seated with first lady Melania Trump.
CNBC reported that at least five shots were heard and that the sound appeared to come from the back of the ballroom while attendees were eating.
As per the report, the shots occurred minutes after White House Correspondents’ Association president Weija Jiang delivered remarks.
Secret Service Escorts Trump
Video from the room showed Secret Service agents quickly forming a protective ring around Trump on the stage before escorting him away. Many people at tables nearby ducked down as armed security carrying rifles moved onto the dais.
Several senior officials also attended the dinner, including Vice President JD Vance, FBI Director Kash Patel and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, according to the report. A few minutes after the incident, Jiang told the ballroom the program would continue.
“I know everyone is going to want as many details as possible, and right now we don’t have them,” Jiang said from the stage.
