President Donald Trump sharply criticized fellow Rep.Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) during a visit to Kentucky, urging voters to replace the seven-term congressman after he opposed a sweeping GOP bill central to Trump’s agenda.
Trump Slams Massie: ‘He Only Votes No‘
On Wednesday, speaking at a packaging plant in Hebron, Kentucky, which lies within Massie’s congressional district, Trump accused the lawmaker of repeatedly obstructing his policies.
Trump also singled out Massie’s vote against the proposed One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a broad package of tax cuts and tougher immigration measures.
“He’s the worst,” Trump told the cheering crowd.
“He only votes no. He just votes no. doesn’t matter. I could give him the best things in the history of a Republican voter, and he’d vote no. There is something wrong with him.”
Trump also threw his support behind Massie’s Republican primary challenger, Ed Gallrein, a farmer and former Navy SEAL officer who has never held elected office.
According to Trump, Gallrein entered the race because Massie is “not doing right for our president.”
Gallrein told supporters he would align closely with Trump’s agenda if elected.
“You deserve an authentic, true Republican conservative that stands shoulder to shoulder with our president and the Republican Party and against the Democrats who are trying to destroy our nation,” Gallrein said.
Massie responded on X, criticizing what he said were sponsored bus rides bringing supporters to the event.
Massie Breaks With GOP
Massie, first elected in 2012, has been known for breaking with Republican leadership on issues like federal spending, war powers, and major GOP priorities, including the megabill, tariffs and military action in Iran, reported The Hill.
Last month, He joined Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) to push a bipartisan War Powers Resolution requiring Congress to approve any U.S. military action against Iran.
Massie also championed the release of government files on Jeffrey Epstein, drawing criticism from Donald Trump.
Last year, Jenna Ellis, a former senior legal advisor to Trump, defended Massie after Trump mocked his remarriage, emphasizing that personal matters should stay separate from politics.
