On Sunday, President Donald Trump criticized the Super Bowl halftime show led by Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny, calling it “absolutely terrible.” The performance, which took place in Santa Clara, California, featured Spanish-language and reggaeton rhythms, marking a cultural shift in the annual American football event.
Trump’s reaction came after he had earlier criticized Bad Bunny’s selection as the halftime act, calling it “absolutely ridiculous.”
The Puerto Rican artist, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, has been a vocal critic of Trump’s deportation policies and supported Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race.
Trump’s Bold Critique Sparks Cultural Divide
On Sunday, Trump’s comments in a Truth Social post emphasized his disapproval, stating, “The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER!” He argued that the performance “makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence.”
Meanwhile, the conservative group Turning Point USA organized an alternative halftime concert called the “All-American Halftime Show,” featuring performances by Kid Rock and other artists. This event was promoted by Trump-aligned figures, including Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, reports Reuters.
How Bad Bunny Challenges Political Norms
Bad Bunny’s participation in the Super Bowl halftime show reflects his growing influence beyond music, as he challenges traditional political norms. His album “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” won Album of the Year at the Grammys, reinforcing his position as a prominent cultural figure.
As reported by the outlet, the alternative concert by Turning Point USA highlights the ongoing cultural divide in the U.S., with different groups seeking representation in major events like the Super Bowl.
