Transport Secretary Sean Duffy on Sunday slammed California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) and Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif) as the latter considers revoking Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents’ Driver’s Licenses.

Protecting Illegal Immigrants Over Americans

In a post on the social media platform X, Duffy criticized Newsom and Swalwell for protecting “ILLEGAL immigrants over American citizens.” He also slammed Newsom for refusing to “revoke over 17,000 commercial trucking licenses issued ILLEGALLY to foreign drivers.”

“California’s leadership puts Californians last once AGAIN,” Duffy said, slamming Swalwell for wanting to strip driver’s licenses to “prevent them from doing their jobs!”

Duffy had earlier announced a withdrawal of nearly $160 million in federal funding for the state amid the CDL row. He had also threatened Governor Tim Walz-led (D-Minn.) Minnesota, which could face suspension of over $30 million in federal funding illegally issuing CDLs to undocumented drivers.

ICE Faces Backlash

The agency has faced backlash from several political leaders, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), who said that over “70% of people” ICE has detained do not have a criminal record, slamming President Donald Trump‘s promises.

Governor Walz, too, shared that there was no “verifiable” evidence that the agency’s operations were “making America safer,” which was met by sharp criticism of the Minnesota governor by the Trump administration.

Sean Duffy Slams Canada

Meanwhile, Duffy also shared that Canada’s decision to let in Chinese-made EVs into the country’s domestic market announced a 6.1% tariff on the initial 49,000 EVs made by Chinese automakers into the country. Duffy shared that Canada would “live to regret” its decision.
