President Trump is readying a ban on flavored e-cigarettes.
All after six people have reportedly died from vaping.
And after the U.S. FDA labeled teen vaping an “epidemic.”
To date, Kansas has six reports associated with the outbreak, according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
Three patients have been classified as confirmed or probable cases and three cases are still under investigation. In addition, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with the addition of the Kansas report, is reporting 6 deaths and more than 450 possible cases of severe lung injury in 33 states and one jurisdiction.
If not brought under control, there’s a fear things could get worse.
For example, just a year ago, the US FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb even warned, “E-cigs have become an almost ubiquitous — and dangerous — trend among teenagers. “The disturbing and accelerating trajectory of use we’re seeing in youth, and the resulting path to addiction, must end. The FDA cannot tolerate a whole generation of young people becoming addicted to nicotine as a tradeoff for enabling adults to access these products.”
Members of Congress are also putting pressure on the President to rein in the e-cig industry, as a result of this news. On the news, shares of Altria (MO) slipped from an intraday high of $44.89 to $43.88. Philip Morris International (PM) fell from $75.34 to $54.57.
